After diligently searching on the web, you finally find the WordPress theme that suites your needs. Next, you download the theme but aren’t sure how to install it. No need to sweat, you have come to the right place. In this tutorial, we will show you how to upload your new WordPress theme.
1. Login to your WP admin dashboard
Open a web browser and navigate to your website’s admin dashboard and login. Typically, you can find this at your-domain/admin.
2. Upload new WordPress theme
After logging in to your admin dashboard, navigate to Appearance > Themes. At the top of your screen click the ‘Add New’ button. On the next page, click ‘Upload Theme’ and you will see a file upload prompt displayed. Click ‘Choose file’ and navigate to the directory where you downloaded your theme. Upload the file and click ‘Install now’.
NOTE: Depending on where you get your theme, the .zip file you download may contain more than just the files required for installing the theme. Therefore, when installing the file you may see an error. If you do, please unzip the .zip file and locate the theme .zip file within the directory you just unzipped. Typically, it is named theme-name.zip.
3. Activate and test theme
Upon successful installation of your theme, click the ‘Activate theme’ button. Now your new WordPress theme is installed and activated. To see your new theme in action, click on the home button in the top left hand corner of your screen.
